Electricians must earnestly adhere to the following “standard procedures” in order to effectively avoid and eliminate electric shock accidents. We hope this will provide valuable guidance for our fellow electricians in the field.

From the perspective of a working electrician and drawing on practical field experience and real-world work scenarios, this article elaborates on the electrician’s reflections and insights into preventing electric shock. Electricians must conscientiously adhere to the following “standard procedures” to effectively avoid and eliminate electric shock accidents. First, we must thoroughly memorize and skillfully apply the “one set of regulations”—making it deeply ingrained in our minds and hearts. As electricians, safety regulations are our most familiar companions. Every year, activities such as the “Safety Regulations Exam,” “Safety 100 Points,” and “Safety Technical Briefings” will always be with us.
 
Every electrician—regardless of your personal attitude toward the regulations—must be thoroughly familiar with the “Regulations for Electrical Safety Work” (covering electrical, power line, mechanical, and other related areas). It’s no exaggeration to say that many of the provisions and requirements in these regulations are based on “painful lessons learned”—“blood-stained experiences” paid for with the lives of countless fellow electricians who have passed away. Although State Grid, Southern Power Grid, power generation groups, and end-users have all refined their own enterprise-specific regulations to suit their particular circumstances, the core provisions and safety technical requirements remain consistent. For us electricians, there’s just one simple truth: “Enhancing safety awareness and standardizing safe practices is the true guiding principle that safeguards every electrician.”
 
Second, we must rigorously implement and strictly enforce the “two tickets” to standardize operational behavior. The operation ticket and work ticket (hereinafter referred to as the “two tickets”) are crucial technical and organizational measures for ensuring the safe execution of switching operations on power equipment and work performed on such equipment. They serve as an effective means of safeguarding personal safety, grid security, and equipment integrity, and play a vital role in preventing accidents. Strengthening the management and assessment of the “two tickets” is also an important guarantee for the proper implementation of the State Grid Corporation’s “Regulations on Electrical Safety Work.”
 
Third, strictly implement the “three-step procedure.” For electrical work, avoid live-line operations whenever possible and rigorously carry out the following safety technical measures: “power off, verify absence of voltage, install grounding wires, hang warning signs, and set up barriers.”
 
Fourth, we must strive to achieve the “four avoidances” by carefully planning our work schedule and doing our utmost to avoid rushing deadlines, last-minute changes, overlapping tasks, special circumstances (such as night shifts or overtime), and concurrent operations involving multiple teams and multiple tasks. We should also strengthen on-site supervision and monitoring, and ensure that workers maintain a positive mental state.
Finally, electricians must fundamentally change their mindset. They should firmly keep in mind the principle of “safety first” and deeply internalize the belief that “your life is your own—take full responsibility for it.” We must strengthen safety education for electricians, strictly adhere to the "Safety Regulations," rigorously implement the "Two-Ticket System," improve on-site safety protection measures, and reinforce risk management and supervision during field operations. Operators must enhance their safety awareness, remain highly vigilant, and throughout the entire process—from pre-operation preparation through execution to post-operation review—comprehensively and thoroughly prevent electrocution accidents involving professional electricians.
