Summary: High- and low-voltage switchgear is primarily composed of circuit breakers and other electrical equipment. It refers to devices manufactured by producers according to the requirements of primary electrical wiring diagrams, in which relevant high- and low-voltage electrical apparatus—including control devices, protective devices, and measuring instruments—as well as busbars, current-carrying conductors, insulators, and other components—are assembled within enclosed or open metal enclosures. These switchgears serve as installations for receiving and distributing electrical energy in power systems. High- and low-voltage switchgear, also known as high-voltage switchgear, plays crucial roles in power systems—including power generation, transmission, distribution, energy conversion, and consumption—by providing functions such as switching, control, and protection. Electrical products with voltage ratings ranging from 3.6 kV to 550 kV mainly include high-voltage circuit breakers, high-voltage disconnect switches and earthing switches, high-voltage load switches, high-voltage automatic reclosers and sectionalizers, high-voltage operating mechanisms, high-voltage explosion-proof switchgear, and high-voltage switchgear cabinets, among several major categories. High- and low-voltage switchgear features spacious cabinet bodies with ample internal space, reasonable and safe clearances, and convenient installation and maintenance procedures, ensuring reliable operation. Its main circuit schemes are complete and can meet the needs of various power supply and distribution systems. The switchgear incorporates five key features designed to prevent operational errors: 1. Preventing the disconnection or connection of disconnect switches under load. 2. Preventing accidental entry into energized compartments. 3. Preventing incorrect tripping or closing of circuit breakers. 4. Preventing the hanging of grounding wires while live. 5. Preventing closing of circuit breakers with grounding wires connected. The components of high- and low-voltage switchgear mainly consist of circuit breakers, disconnect switches, load switches, operating mechanisms, current transformers, and various protective devices. The primary function of switchgear is to switch, control, and protect electrical equipment during the processes of power generation, transmission, distribution, and energy conversion in power systems. The structural characteristics of high- and low-voltage switchgear are as follows: 1. The entire cabinet adopts a modular assembly structure with standardized mounting holes, ensuring strong component compatibility, excellent applicability, and a high degree of standardization. 2. The upper part of the cabinet houses the busbar chamber; the front section contains the electrical equipment chamber; and the rear section accommodates cable entry and exit points. Each compartment is separated by steel plates or insulating panels to ensure safety. 3. The doors of the MCC cabinet’s drawer compartments are mechanically interlocked with the operating handles of circuit breakers or disconnect switches, allowing the doors to be opened only when the handles are in the open position. 4. The incoming switch, bus tie switch, and MCC cabinet drawers each have three positions: on, test, and off. 5. Depending on the power supply requirements, the top of the switchgear can be equipped with busbar bridges.
