The Five-Prevention Requirements and Components of High-Voltage Switchgear Cabinets

Category: Industry News

Release time: 2022-03-03

Summary: High-voltage switchgear, when put into use, primarily serves to connect, disconnect, control, or protect electrical equipment in power systems—including power generation, transmission, distribution, energy conversion, and consumption. These electrical products operate at voltage levels ranging from 3.6 kV to 550 kV and mainly include high-voltage circuit breakers, high-voltage isolating switches and earthing switches, high-voltage load switches, high-voltage automatic reclosers and sectionalizers, high-voltage operating mechanisms, high-voltage explosion-proof switchgear assemblies, and high-voltage switch cabinets—several major categories in total. High-voltage switchgear is an essential component of the power transmission and transformation equipment manufacturing industry and occupies a critically important position within the entire electric power sector.

The "Five-Prevention" measures for high-voltage switchgear are:

1. After the vacuum circuit breaker trolley inside the high-voltage switchgear is closed in the test position, the trolley circuit breaker cannot be moved into the working position. (This prevents closing the circuit breaker under load.)

2. When the grounding switch inside the high-voltage switchgear is closed, the circuit breaker in the trolley cannot be closed. (This prevents closing the circuit breaker with the grounding wire still connected.)

3. When the vacuum circuit breaker inside the high-voltage switchgear is closed, the mechanical interlock between the grounding switch on the rear door of the switchgear and the switchgear door ensures that the door remains locked. (This prevents accidental entry into a live compartment.)

4. When the vacuum circuit breaker inside the high-voltage switchgear is in operation, the grounding switch cannot be closed. (This prevents connecting a grounding wire while energized.)

5. When the vacuum circuit breaker inside the high-voltage switchgear is in the closed and operating position, it cannot be withdrawn from the working position of the trolley circuit breaker. (This prevents pulling the isolating switch under load.)

The high-voltage switchgear consists of cabinet body materials and functional units.

These three major parts can further be subdivided.

Cabinet material

Cold-rolled steel sheet or angle steel (for welded cabinets); aluminized-zinc coated steel sheet or galvanized steel sheet (for assembled cabinets); stainless steel sheet (non-magnetic); aluminum sheet (non-magnetic).

Functional unit

Main busbar room (typically, the main busbar arrangement adopts either a "pin" shape or a "1" shape); circuit breaker room; cable room; relay and instrument room; small busbar room on top of the cabinet; secondary terminal room.

Understanding the Importance of Meter Boxes in Electrical Distribution

Meter boxes, often known as meter enclosures, are essential components of electrical distribution systems. They house electricity meters, which measure the amount of electrical energy consumed by a property. These enclosures not only protect the meters from environmental factors but also provide a secure area for utility companies to access the meters for readings and maintenance. One of the prima
