Operating Environment and Installation Requirements for Power Distribution Boxes

Category: Industry News

Release time: 2022-03-03

Summary: When manufacturing power distribution boxes, non-combustible materials are primarily used. In production areas and offices with low risk of electric shock, open-type distribution boards may be installed. However, in processing workshops, casting facilities, forging shops, heat treatment areas, boiler rooms, woodworking shops, and other locations where the risk of electric shock is high or the working environment is poor, enclosed cabinets should be installed. In workplaces where conductive dust is present or where flammable and explosive gases may be generated, electrical equipment must be installed in sealed or explosion-proof enclosures. All electrical components, instruments, switches, and wiring within the distribution box should be neatly arranged, securely mounted, and easy to operate. The inside of the cabinet (box) should be free of accumulated dust and debris.

In locations where conductive dust or flammable and explosive gases may be present, power distribution boxes must be equipped with enclosed or explosion-proof electrical devices. All electrical components, instruments, switches, and wiring within the distribution box should be neatly arranged, securely installed, and easy to operate. The cabinet (or box) itself must be free of accumulated dust, standing water, and debris.

The bottom surface of the cabinet (box) for power distribution boxes installed on the floor should be raised 50–100 mm above the ground. The center height of the operating handle is typically between 1.2 and 1.5 meters. Within a range of 0.8 to 1.2 meters in front of the cabinet (box), there should be no obstructions, and the protective grounding connections must be reliable. No bare live parts shall be exposed outside the cabinet (box). Electrical components that must be mounted on the outer surface of the cabinet (box) or on the distribution board must be equipped with reliable shielding.

Power distribution boxes are categorized into power distribution boxes and lighting distribution boxes, and they represent the final-stage equipment in a power distribution system. A distribution box is a low-voltage distribution device that assembles switching devices, measuring instruments, protective devices, and auxiliary equipment into a closed or semi-closed metal enclosure or panel according to electrical wiring requirements.

Under normal operating conditions, the circuit can be connected or disconnected using manual or automatic switches. In the event of a fault or abnormal operation, protective devices will automatically disconnect the circuit or trigger an alarm. Measuring instruments can display various operational parameters and also allow adjustment of certain electrical parameters, providing alerts or issuing signals when parameters deviate from their normal operating range. These devices are commonly used in power generation, distribution, and substations.

The power management system in the monitoring room collects data from various electrical circuits via transmission channels provided by field devices and communication systems. The collected information is analyzed and processed, then presented to the operators in multiple formats such as reports and graphs, enabling them to easily monitor the system’s operational status and electricity consumption patterns. The system also supports itemized metering of electricity usage, allowing operators to promptly detect and rectify instances of energy waste, thereby achieving energy savings. When necessary, the system provides quick remote control capabilities, enabling operators to modify equipment operating statuses and handle emergency situations effectively.
